OR&R celebrates World Oceans Day at a NOAA Open House
JUNE 15, 2018 — On June 8, NOAA’s Office of Response and Restoration participated in the NOAA Open House at the Western Regional Center in Seattle, Washington.
Working together, staff from the Marine Debris Program, Emergency Response Division, and Assessment and Restoration Division engaged children and adults by demonstrating an oil spill in an urban setting using a model city, brown food coloring, and bottle spray, to simulate rain. OR&R staff also challenged visitors’ knowledge of marine debris with a question wheel, provided educational material, and participated in presentations at the auditorium. An estimated 700 people attended the open house, and many stopped by the OR&R tables.
