OR&R Disaster Preparedness Program Attends American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics SciTech Forum

DECEMBER 14, 2020 — On Wednesday, December 9, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) SciTech Forum hosted a complimentary webinar weeks before the 2021 main event that addressed current impacts to the commercial aviation industry.

The executive and technical panels consisted of airline executives, international airport managers, industry researchers, and journalists.

The disruption in the airline industry has led to significant impacts on National Ocean Service (NOS) and Disaster Preparedness Program (DPP) missions and projects. Specifically, trainings, workshops, and the NOS Hurricane Summit have had to make the transition to virtual platforms. Using the industry as a metric, DPP can plan for preparedness efforts that involve the safe travel of federal employees and contractors. By understanding the updates and adjustments the airline industry is making, DPP can adequately plan how to provide future services.
