OR&R Disaster Preparedness Program Supports NOS at the First NOAA Pre-Eagle Horizon 2018 Leadership Tabletop Exercise

FEBRUARY 2, 2018 — The OR&R Disaster Preparedness Program (DPP) supported National Ocean Service (NOS) leadership at this January 30 NOAA Pre-Eagle Horizon 2018 Leadership Tabletop Exercise.

NOAA leadership including the Acting Under Secretary, Deputy Under Secretary for Operations, and Line and Staff Office Leaders gathered in College Park, Maryland to talk through various issues related to the NOAA Continuity of Operations (COOP) Plan. NOS Assistant Administrator, Russell Callender, attended for NOS leadership as well as a dozen other NOS staff. This first of two preparatory tabletop exercises allowed for NOAA leadership to begin thinking about NOAA's preparedness and response posture to maintain mission essential functions in the event of a catastrophic event impacting the National Capital Region (DC Metro Area). The second preparatory tabletop exercise is scheduled for March 15, 2018. These tabletop exercises will lead up to NOAA's full-scale Eagle Horizon 2018 exercise from May 3-8 as part of FEMA's National Level Exercise program. The DPP is looking forward to broad NOS engagement in the May 2018 exercise.
