OR&R Diversity and Inclusion Committee Discusses Inclusion, Diversity and Equity in the STEM Workplace

JUNE 22, 2018 — On June 21, OR&R’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee hosted Dr. Claire Horner-Devine, founder of Counterspace Consulting, for a discussion on how institutions and individuals can promote an equitable workplace.

To explore the topic, Claire shared the model employed by the Broadening the Representation of Academic Investigators in NeuroScience (BRAINS) project developed to advance diversity in the field of neuroscience. BRAINS helps participants build a sense of self-efficacy and belonging through building community, a space for conversations on careers and identities, and continuous professional development and engagement. Claire led participants through a brainstorm and discussion on how we can build these concepts into our everyday work within OR&R, so that all team members are set up for success.
