DECEMBER 16, 2019 — NOAA's North Atlantic Regional Collaboration Team convened a roundtable discussion on December 9 in New York City with nine partners alongside of six NOAA staff with district staff from Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer's offices on NOAA's work to restore natural resources and its connections to resilience.

Five staff from Senator Gillbrand's office participated and one from Senator Schumer's office.

OR&R staff provided an introduction to our Damage Assessment Remediation and Restoration Program.  Our partners from the New York/New Jersey Harbor Estuary Program, Hudson River Foundation, Seatuck Environmental Association, Gowanus Canal Conservancy, and Newtown Creek Alliance were impressive in their knowledge of OR&R's program, their commitment to local issues, and their experience with all aspects of community restoration and revitalization. Of note were discussions on dam removals as well as the ecological services provided by shorelines in densely populated urban areas. The staffers were thankful to NOAA for pulling together the discussion with our partners and look forward to scheduling future conversations.
