OR&R Staff Spotlight: Jasmine Sandhu
Jasmine Sandhu is a software engineer working in OR&R’s Emergency Response Division (ERD) at the Seattle Western Regional Center - Sand Point.
In this role, she supports the development of the General NOAA Operational Modeling Environment, commonly known as GNOME. GNOME is used to model the physical processes acting on an oil spill. It predicts the trajectory of the spill and currently the team is also working on integrating ADIOS' (Automated Data Inquiry for Oil Spills) weathering algorithms in the new GNOME/ADIOS application.
Jasmine holds a Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Washington, in Seattle. Prior to joining OR&R, she worked for Aerojet writing software for testing rocket engines, for MIT Lincoln Laboratory on a RADAR testbed and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory as a Flight Systems Engineer. She moved into software and would like to continue contributing her skills to science related work.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her one year-old daughter and trips to the mountains. Over the last several years, she has also volunteered for the 'Climb for Asha' program which leads climbers up Mount Rainier to raise money for charities working to bring socio-economic change in India, and empowering children through education.
