Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication Conducted in Seattle

OR&R Outreach offered Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) and media training on April 2 and 3, on the Seattle/Sand Point campus. The one and a half day training covered skills for communicating to the public, media, partners, and stakeholders during an emergency as well as after.

The CERC course was developed by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and was customized to meet the needs of OR&R’s emergency response and communications activities. It was taught by Richard Sheehe, former national correspondent and news anchor for the NBC and CBS radio networks and writer for The New York Times and Associated Press as well as communications strategist for the CDC. The training was attended by OR&R staff across all divisions as well as NOAA staff from outside of OR&R located in Seattle.
