2014 "Keep the Sea Free of Debris!" Art Contest

Congratulations to the winners of the 2014 "Keep the Sea Free of Debris!" art contest.

The Marine Debris Program received hundreds of entries from states across the nation, and selected 13 winners, which will be featured in our 2015 Marine Debris planner, due out later this year.

People of all ages can connect with and understand the marine debris problem, and educating them on the issue is a crucial step toward solving it. To reach the nation’s children, the NOAA Marine Debris Program sponsors an annual nationwide art contest in an effort to get them thinking about how they can keep debris out of the ocean. This year, the Marine Debris Program asked kindergarten through 8th grade students to create their "vision" of marine debris. See all the winning artwork.

"Marine debris impacts our environment. A lot of animals are trapped by plastic bags. Littering is bad for animals and people. I will recycle more." (Ana M., Grade 6, California)
