Marine Debris Division Participates in Ocean Conservancy’s Trash Free Seas Alliance Meeting

DECEMBER 23, 2016--The week of December 12, the NOAA Marine Debris Division Chief participated in the Trash Free Seas Alliance (TFSA) meeting hosted by the Ocean Conservancy in Long Beach, California.

The TSFA is made up of non-profits, industry representatives, and scientific researchers working together to solve the problem of marine debris. The meeting provided an opportunity to hear an update on the latest scientific research around marine debris, share success stories for the prevention of marine debris, and to discuss the TSFA’s signature initiative—the development of waste management infrastructure in southeast Asia. All participants also had the opportunity to participate in a beach cleanup to see the issue of marine debris first-hand.
