Meeting of the Interagency Coordinating Committee on Oil Pollution Research

MARCH 10, 2017--OR&R's Director and Emergency Response Division chief participated in the quarterly meeting of the Interagency Coordinating Committee on Oil Pollution Research (ICCOPR) on March 8.

This committee consists of 15 member agencies and was established by the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 to coordinate federal research efforts on oil pollution research topics. The group's 2015-2021 Research and Technology Plan helps to guide the oil pollution research efforts of the member agencies and inform others working in the oil pollution research field of federal interests and priorities. OR&R had arranged for a featured presentation by the coordinator of the Oil Spill Science Outreach Team of the Gulf of Mexico Sea Grant Programs, and also provided context of how the Oil Spill Outreach Team's roles complement the Scientific Support role of OR&R. The two groups continue to collaborate in support of OR&R's primary role of providing scientific support for coastal zone spill response and preparedness and the Outreach Team’s primary role of collecting and translating the latest peer-reviewed research for those who rely on a healthy marine ecosystem for work or recreation. The other featured presentation was on the Arctic Domain Awareness Center, a Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence, and agencies also discussed ongoing projects.
