OR&R Attends Capitol Hill Oceans Week

JUNE 23, 2017--During June 13-15, staff from OR&R's Silver Spring office attended Capitol Hill Oceans Week (CHOW) at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in downtown Washington, DC.

Held by the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, the annual conference brings together experts from the scientific, government, private, and non-governmental organization sectors, as well as members of Congress and coastal communities, to discuss the latest in ocean policy.

The "Waves of Plastic" panel brought together various groups to discuss current initiatives and partnerships to combat plastic pollution.

During the Congressional Roundtable, Senators Whitehouse (RI) and Sullivan (AK), as well as Representative Kilmer (WA) introduced the Save our Seas Act, which would reauthorize that NOAA Marine Debris Program.

Russell Callender, Assistant Administrator for NOAA National Ocean Service, facilitated a panel on "Optimism for the Ocean" in which members of the ocean community discussed success stories.
