OR&R Participates in Georgetown University Congressional Operations Seminar

In addition to Capitol Hill Oceans Week (CHOW) and the NOAA Fish Fry, this week in Washington D.C. (June 9-13) was also the Georgetown University Congressional Operations Seminar on Capitol Hill.

Mark Dix and John Tarpley both attended this course in the Rayburn House Office Building along with over 40 other Federal and non-governmental students.

In addition to hearing from House committee staffers, lobbyists, a former member of Congress, pundits, and reporters, they also sat in on Committee and Subcommittee hearings and attended both the floor of the House and the Senate.
Washington, D.C. usually reserves the 4th of July for some big fireworks but this week the city managed to set off a pretty big display when the majority leader in the House was unexpectedly defeated in a primary election. Being right on Capitol Hill to see firsthand the after effects of the leadership change brought about scintillating discussions and some highly interesting prognosticating on behalf of everyone.
