Plan for Use of Chemical Dispersants for Oil Spill Response in Alaska

JANUARY 29, 2016--At the Alaska Regional Response Team (RRT) meeting on January 27, 2016, in Anchorage, Alaska, the U.S. Coast Guard announced an updated plan on the use of chemical dispersants for oil spill response in Alaska. Almost all coastal states and territories have dispersant use plans, but such a plan has not existed in Alaska since September 2008.

As required by the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan, the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the State of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, the U.S. Department of Commerce, represented by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the U.S. Department of the Interior, signed the document. Doug Helton, of the NOAA Office of Response and Restoration in Seattle, is the NOAA representative to the Alaska RRT.
