Science and Action in the New York and New Jersey Harbor
NOVEMBER 30, 2018 — OR&R staff participated in the biennial conference of the New York and New Jersey Harbor Estuary Program (HEP).
The HEP includes the entire Hudson-Raritan Estuary and numerous NOAA Damage Assessment and Restoration Program (DARRP) sites are located within it's boundaries (e.g., Berry's Creek, Gowanus Canal, Hudson River, Newtown Creek, Passaic River, Quanta Resources, Raritan Bay Slag). This year's meeting, the "2018 Science and Action Conference," focused on the findings summarized in "The State of the Estuary 2018" report and which was released this week as well as on the status of the HEP Action Agenda 2017-2022. Speakers included the Deputy Regional Administrator of Region 2 of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the New York District Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the Deputy Commissioner for Water Resources at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, as well as numerous scientists and regional stakeholders.
