Tots Track Trash

MAY 23, 2014 -- Toddlers in Athens, Georgia, recently became the youngest group of citizen scientists to use the Marine Debris Tracker, a smartphone application used to capture and report the location of marine debris found along our oceans, Great Lakes, and inland regions.

The two and three-year-old children identified and picked up debris while teachers assisted with collecting and discarding the items. The NOAA Marine Debris Program funded the mobile application's development through a partnership with the University of Georgia, Sea Grant.
