OR&R's Disaster Preparedness Program holds Virtual Tabletop Exercise

JUNE 1, 2020 — On May 26, the NOS Incident Management Team (IMT), in coordination with the Disaster Preparedness Program (DPP), held their first completely virtual tabletop exercise.

This exercise targeted the newly developed Situation Report format which moves away from Google Docs and into Google Sheets.

During the two-hour exercise, IMT members were asked to fill out hypothetical office-specific information related to an East Coast hurricane. Team members were asked to input pre-developed information about personnel, mission, and infrastructure (PMI). In addition, the IMT members were asked to input information to learn more about the tabs developed to track deployed staff as well as NOS staff who may be located within the simulated Area of Interest (AOI) for the hurricane.

This exercise was followed by a virtual hotwash session where the Team identified strengths and some areas for improvement for the Situation Report format.

The DPP is currently working to implement the identified improvements in preparation of June 1—the official start of the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane season.
