OR&R conducts Hazwoper training (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) to ensure responders' safety at oil and chemical spills. (NOAA)

Each year, we provide extensive training to more than 2,000 individuals in industry and government on the scientific aspects of oil and chemical spill response. These classes, workshops, and resources help spill responders increase their understanding of oil spill science when analyzing spills and making risk-based decisions. Register now for our popular Science of Oil Spills class or build your knowledge of spill and chemical accident response on your own, using our job aids and publications. Questions? We offer classes and workshops for oil and chemical spill responders and planners in local, state, and federal governments as well as industry. Our largest training effort is the four-day Science of Oil Spills class, which is offered multiple times a year and focuses on the scientific basis for evaluating environmental risks during spills and making decisions to optimize ecological recovery.

You can also build your knowledge of spill and chemical accident response on your own. In this section, we offer supplemental training materials related to OR&R products and software, such as GNOME (a spill forecasting tool). You can find additional resources on oil spill response techniques and recommendations among our publications for responders.
