NOAA participates in 10th Annual Marine Science Festival

OCT. 10, 2023 — On September 30, staff from OR&R's Assessment and Restoration Division and NOAA’s Restoration Center returned to SUBMERGE, New York City 's premier waterfront marine science festival. This year's event was held on a pier in Hudson River Park near the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.

NOAA staff showcased local fish and invertebrates, including real live American eels that slithered up a demonstration eel ladder. The "Eelavator" is always popular with the crowd and this year the juvenile fiddler crabs were also a surprise hit. The annual interactive festival draws a large and diverse crowd eager to learn about marine science and life in and around the estuary. It also provides a fun forum for the public to conduct experiments, fish, kayak, be entertained, and interact with scientists and natural resource experts.
