NOAA Presents on Dangers of Plastic Pollution at Pfizer Earth Week Seminar Series

APRIL 29, 2024 — On April 23, Nancy Wallace, director of the NOAA Marine Debris Program within the Office of Response and Restoration, spoke about the dangers of plastic pollution to an audience of Pfizer employees as a part of its company-wide Earth Week seminar series.

The theme of Earth Week in 2024 was “Planet vs. Plastics.” The presentation, attended by 37 participants, covered a range of topics including an overview of plastics and microplastics, how plastic enters and is distributed in the environment, the amount of plastic in our ocean environment, and how plastic production and pollution has increased over time. In addition to covering an overview of what the Marine Debris Program does to address the problem of plastic marine debris, the presentation educated on actions both individuals and corporations can take to help mitigate the issue. The seminar was recorded to be further shared with a broader audience of Pfizer employees.
