Emergency Response Division Helps Give Inland Oil Spill Response Training in Oregon

FEBRUARY 3, 2017--The week of January 27, OR&R’s Emergency Response Division is helping give inland oil spill response training in Portland, OR.

Over thirty-five spill responders and natural resource trustees with U.S Department of Interior (DOI), Tribal governments, and state agencies in the West are attending the five-day training course. The training, which includes both classroom instruction and field exercises, is focusing on response to oil spills in inland environments. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service National Conservation Training Center (NCTC) and other Department of Interior (DOI) bureau and office representatives developed the course as part of the Department’s Inland Oil Spill Preparedness Project (IOSPP) Initiative. The IOSPP focuses on funding work that improves DOI’s preparedness for oil spills and hazardous materials releases in inland areas of the United States. In addition to NOAA, instruction is being provided by DOI, Research Planning, Inc., USEPA, and the Washington Department of Ecology.
