Lower Duwamish River Restoration Event

JUNE 19, 2015--On June 19, 2015, NOAA presented an Excellence in Restoration Award to the Boeing Company to recognize their restoration project on the lower Duwamish River in Seattle, Washington, resulting from a cooperative Natural Resource Damages Settlement.

Speakers at the event included Will Stelle, NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service Regional Administrator of the West Coast Region who encouraged other potentially responsible parties to follow Boeing’s example in moving ahead with cleaning up and restoring the Lower Duwamish.

Louie Ungaro, Vice Chairman of the Muckleshoot Indian Tribal Council reminded the participants of the importance of the watershed to the Muckleshoot people and how he hoped this was a first step in restoring the river and its salmon and other resources.

After the ceremony, participants went on a short boat tour of the restoration site along the river.
