NOAA Delivers Lecture at SUNY Binghamton

MAY 6, 2016--At the invitation of the State University of New York (SUNY) Binghamton Department of Geography, OR&R’s Ed Levine was invited as a guest lecturer for the 2015-2016 Dean’s Speaker’s Series.

On April 29 Mr. Levine presented a talk entitled “Planning for Societal Impacts from Oil Spills: Lessons Learned from the Past and Suggestions for the Future.” The lecture was attended by undergraduate and graduate students along with professors. The lecture covered NOAA’s role in spill response through OR&R, the range of responses that they can be involved in, examples of oil spills causing wide-felt societal impacts, and the need for pre-planning response activities. Following the lecture was a question and answer session. Several individuals were very interested in the role NOAA plays with regards to environmental monitoring and protection, and satellite services.
