OR&R and State Responders Provide Inland Oil Spill Training in Fresno

OCTOBER 21, 2016--Since 2005, OR&R’s Emergency Response Division (ERD) has teamed up with California’s Office of Spill Prevention & Response (OSPR) to provide oil spill training known as Environmental Response to Oil Spills (EROS).

With OSPR’s authorities recently expanded to include all waters across the state, this week’s class (Fresno, CA October 18-20) is the second Inland EROS class ever held and incorporates both marine and inland spill elements. Thirty California spill responder attendees include OSPR, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and oil industry partners. A wide variety of topics were covered including oil chemistry, fingerprinting, fate and transport in marine and inland waters; ecotoxicology; resources at risk evaluations; shoreline assessments; environmental trade-offs, cleanup methods and endpoints; Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA); oiled wildlife capture and care, as well as many of the unique response resources available in California.
