OR&R Chairs Panel on DWH Injury and Restoration Issues at RAE Conference

DECEMBER 16, 2016--Scientists from NOAA's OR&R, NOAA's Restoration Center, and from the Ocean Conservancy participated in a session at the Restore America's Estuaries 8th National Summit and 25th Biennial Meeting of the Coastal Society in New Orleans on Dec. 13, 2016.

The panelists summarized the results of the DWH NRDA injury assessment and then delved into a variety of topics critical for successful long-term restoration implementation, including the structure and process for restoration through the technical implementation groups, environmental monitoring of effectiveness, the use of adaptive management, and how to manage and access data via DIVER and ERMA. Audience questions to the panel focused on how to factor in a declining environmental baseline into environmental monitoring, how to develop a common currency between restoration projects to better compare and track progress, opportunities for maximizing adaptive management, and the utility of data standards for managing data. The presentation summarizing the DWH injury assessment is available here.
