OR&R Delivers Keynote Presentation at National Environmental Monitoring Conference

JULY 17, 2015--Ben Shorr, with OR&R’s Assessment and Restoration Division, gave a keynote presentation at the National Environmental Monitoring Conference in Chicago, Illinois.

This year’s conference theme was “Big Data: Environmental Measurement and Monitoring Data in the 21st Century”, and Ben’s keynote focused on data warehouse approaches to managing and providing access to a broad range of environmental data. The presentation highlighted the many ways that data and analyses flow into a scientific natural resources damage assessment (NRDA), and the tools and technology that NOAA OR&R has built to support the Deepwater Horizon natural resource damage assessment including the Data Integration, Visualization, Exploration and Reporting (DIVER) tool.

The presentation also highlighted OR&R’s successful efforts to provide unprecedented public access to NRDA data, which has created transparency and the foundation for scientific and journal publications. More information about the publicly accessible Deepwater Horizon NRDA data can be found at: https://dwhdiver.orr.noaa.gov/.
