OR&R Director Addresses Spill Control Association of America

At this year's annual meeting of the Spill Control Association of America (SCAA), held on March 19 -21, OR&R Director Dave Westerholm provided an update on OR&R's work to members of the spill response community from across the country.

The SCAA actively promotes the interests of groups within the community, including spill response contractors, manufacturers, distributors, consultants, instructors, government and training institutions and corporations working in the industry.

In his update, Westerholm emphasized OR&R tools, trainings, and efforts to keep up with the science of spill response, including OR&R's Emergency Response Division’s new online Aerial Observation of Oil Spills.

The presentation spurred questions and discussion about the state of oil spill science, especially educating the public about fact and fiction in oil spill response. Throughout the meeting, the group also discussed emerging issues including technical advances for response and transporting materials by rail.
