OR&R Outreach Plans for FY 2016

OCTOBER 2, 2015--On September 22 and 23, 2015, the OR&R Outreach Team met in Silver Spring to review how well the team met its goals and objectives from Fiscal Year 2015 and create a new Outreach Action Plan for FY 2016. With representatives from the Marine Debris, Assessment and Restoration, and Emergency Response Divisions of OR&R, the group initiated plans for three new outreach campaigns to be conducted over the next fiscal year.

Special guest speakers throughout the event provided valuable perspective on the OR&R team’s recent accomplishments and gave ideas for future collaboration. OR&R Acting Deputy Paul Scholz kicked off the meeting with perspectives for unified outreach in the office, and members of the OR&R Management Team, Charlie Henry and Nancy Wallace, joined to provide their input. As part of an OR&R effort to better engage external organizations, Addie Haughey from the Ocean Conservancy discussed her organization's perspectives on partnerships and engagement, emphasizing the need for face to face engagements and working collaboratively towards a shared vision. A NOAA panel discussion on the second day featured Carol Kavanagh, of NOS Communications and Education Division; Michael Jarvis of NOAA Legislative Affairs; MaryLee Haughwout of NOS Policy and Constituent Affairs Division; and Ben Sherman and Keeley Belva of NOAA Public Affairs.

The final OR&R FY2016 Outreach Action Plan will be available in the next few weeks on the OR&R Outreach Site, where you can also find PowerPoint templates, factsheets, infographics, and other communications resources.
