OR&R Participates in Spill of National Significance Action Officer Seminar

OCTOBER 7, 2016--On Monday September 26, OR&R's Emergency Response Division Chief, Scott Lundgren, participated in a seminar at Coast Guard Headquarters that brought together current and prior staff involved in supporting National Incident Commander (NIC) staff and program office roles during the Deepwater Horizon Spill of National Significance (SONS).

The Seminar speakers shared lessons from their experience to better inform and foster discussion with current team members with preparedness and response roles for a SONS.

Scott shared information from his prior Coast Guard experience including regional planning for the 2010 SONS Exercise, deployments to the NIC interagency group, involvement in Marine Environmental Response program enhancements, and perspectives from OR&R on the substantial increases in research investments post Deepwater Horizon, and implications for both the Coast Guard and NOAA in scientific support during responses.

A series of future events are planned building to the next SONS executive level seminar.
