OR&R Staff Spotlight: Michael Walton

Michael Walton is a Web and Multimedia Specialist in OR&R’s Assessment and Restoration Division (ARD).

In this role, Michael provides web and multimedia support to various ARD websites, including the re-development and migration to Drupal of the DARRP site; and new design and development elements for the Montrose Settlement and Gulf Spill Restoration websites.

In addition, Michael has developed a PDF newsletter for the Castro Cove Trustee Council; designed training for ORR staff on how to use Adobe Creative Suite software; produced a side-by-side wellhead comparison video; ensures documents are 508 compliant prior to dissemination; and is currently working on producing a video detailing successful coral restoration efforts in Hawaii.

Michael also provides web and multimedia support, on a task-by-task basis, to NOAA's Program Planning and Integration (PPI) group. He recently launched PPI's new Program Evaluation Guide website.

Prior to coming to NOAA, Michael has worked in multimedia development for over 25 years. He began his career at the Internal Revenue Service in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he built and operated a training and multimedia facility for the IRS's regional office. He ran his own multimedia business for 7 years, and then moved to the D.C. area where he became a multimedia developer for a university, then a government contractor in Alexandria, Virginia.

Deaf since age 4, Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (1986) in Media Design from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. He resides in Chantilly, Virginia, west of the Dulles Airport corridor.
