OR&R at Worker Safety and Health Technical Conference

OCT. 28, 2016--The Safety Officer of OR&R, Ali Bahrami-Bayeh, attended the 2016 National Response Team (NRT) Worker Safety and Health Technical Conference in Washington, DC on October 18- 19.

The biennial conference is an assembly of the NRT Worker Safety and Health Subcommittee members and other safety professionals to discuss current trends and share information in an effort to improve the safety and health for workers related to oil and hazardous material response and recovery. The subcommittee consists of safety professionals from 15 federal departments and agencies such as NOAA, EPA, US Coast Guard, etc., responsible for coordinating emergency preparedness and response to oil and hazardous substance pollution incidents. This conference fosters the building of relationships between the federal inter-agency, state, local, tribal, territorial agencies, and non-governmental organizations.

The presenters discussed case studies and lessons-learned from incidents such as derailment of freight trains containing crude oil, ship wreckage and recovery, oil and chemical release in waterways, mine safety, psychological resiliency, and survival.
