NOV. 20, 2023 — Nancy Kinner, Ph.D. the University of New Hampshire co-director of the joint OR&R-University of New Hampshire (UNH) Coastal Response Research Center (CRRC), received the prestigious Profile of Service Award from the University at an Evening of Distinction celebration on October 12, 2023.
The Profile of Service Award celebrates individuals for outstanding performance on behalf of UNH, including service in the organization of alumni networks, service in UNH Fund activity, work by University employees over and above assigned duties and which is beneficial to the University, and/or promotional activities on behalf of the University and/or the Alumni Association.
Kinner’s work and impact at CRRC was highlighted, in addition to her range of impact as an alumnus, mentor, researcher, and leader across communities. Specifically, her engagements with the oil spill research, preparedness, and response communities have had a lasting impact, from facilitating key countermeasures forums and providing Congressional testimony following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010, supporting the development of critical disaster mapping technologies, and continuing involvement in community collaborations and advancing products and tools through CRRC today.
The CRRC was founded in 2004 as a partnership between NOAA, through OR&R, and UNH. The center’s goals are to reduce the impacts of spills and other hazards that threaten coastal communities. By bringing together experts, resources, and scientists, the CRRC works to advance spill preparedness, response, assessment, and recovery on a local, national, and international scale. Over the years, Kinner and the CRRC have been instrumental in the progress of all-hazards preparedness and response alongside OR&R.
