DEC. 20, 2021 — On Dec. 8-9, staff from the Office of Response and Restoration Disaster Preparedness Program and the Great Bay (New Hampshire) and Wells (Maine) National Estuarine Research Reserves walked through a tabletop exercise designed to test the Research Reserves’ Disaster Response Plans.

Approximately 25 people discussed a severe weather scenario developed by the National Weather Service that occurred during New England’s peak summer visitor season.

Exercise participants shared how they make daily operational decisions and how they could or would react to tornado and microburst events. Following the scenario, members of the exercise planning team and Reserves shared lessons learned. This was the first tabletop exercise for most participants.
