Korean Delegation Visits OR&R
Drawing on NOAA's expertise in emergency management for marine incidents, a delegation from a maritime security research team at Korea Institute for Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) visited OR&R's Silver Spring office on Monday, February 9, 2015.
Following the tragic sinking for the M/V Sewol in South Korea last spring, representatives from KIOST are working to improve management of marine emergencies. To provide information about how we manage incidents in OR&R, Dave Westerholm, Tony Penn, and other OR&R staff provided an overview of our work and answered questions for the research team. In particular, the group discussed how decision-making works within the Unified Command and the Damage Assessment, Remediation, and Restoration Program.
KIOST is a state-run research institute that leads research and development to supports the development of marine resources and protection of the ocean environment.
