GESAMP is an advisory body that advises the United Nations (UN) system on the scientific aspects of marine environmental protection. Jointly sponsored by nine UN organizations, GESAMP conducts and supports marine assessments by undertaking in-depth studies, analyses, and reviews of specific topics, and identifying emerging issues regarding the state of the marine environment. The meeting Paris is the first of two associated with the Third Phase of Working Group 40. Experts from 14 different countries met to discuss the harmonization of methods for monitoring plastics and microplastics in the marine environment.
