Marine Debris Program Participates in Roundtable Hosted by Senator Sullivan

May 3, 2021 ─ On April 14, Nancy Wallace, Director of the NOAA Marine Debris Program (MDP), and Peter Murphy, Alaska Regional Coordinator, participated in a virtual roundtable event hosted by Senator Dan Sullivan (AK).

The roundtable brought together organizations from across Alaska working on the issue of marine debris, including many partners funded through NOAA Marine Debris Program grants. Following the Senator’s opening remarks, Nancy and Peter shared updates on implementation of the Save Our Seas 2.0 Act, provided information about upcoming grant competitions, and discussed the MDP’s engagement with the Arctic Council. 

Representatives from the Island Trails Network, Ocean Plastic Recovery Project, Aleut Community of St. Paul Island, Southeast Alaska Watershed Coalition, and North Slope Borough shared updates on recent project activities and successes. The participants then discussed next steps to address marine debris in the region.
