Marine Debris Program Participates in STEM Educator Workshop

JULY 20, 2018 — On July 11, Sarah Lowe, of the NOAA Marine Debris Program (MDP) participated in a summer institute on Teaching STEM and the Power of Place.

Hosted by the Great Lakes Stewardship Institute, this summer program provided 30 Michigan secondary teachers with tools to create hands-on projects that connect students to STEM learning and the environment. The MDP-led session highlighted the local impacts of marine debris and how teachers could get their students engaged in shoreline monitoring and inspiring change in their communities. Sarah wrapped up the session with a hands-on beach survey and cleanup.
