Marine Debris Program Presents at Virtual 2022 Ocean Science Meeting

APRIL 4, 2022 – Staff from the NOAA Marine Debris Program (MDP) attended and gave presentations at the virtual 2022 Ocean Sciences Meeting, co-sponsored by the American Geophysical Union, the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography, and The Oceanography Society, held Feb 28 - March 4. 

Amy V. Uhrin, MDP Chief Scientist, presented the results of a collaborative study between MDP and the National Marine Fisheries Service Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center on marine debris snagged by longlines in the Hawai'i-based pelagic longline fishery. Hillary Burgess, MDP coordinator for the Marine Debris Monitoring and Assessment Project (MDMAP), discussed how results from MDMAP data analyses, a field protocol evaluation, and stakeholder interviews have been used to improve data quality, discoverability, and usability of MDMAP data
