Chinese Delegation Visits NOAA Marine Debris Program

DECEMBER 2, 2016--As part of a "Sister Cities" initiative developed by the U.S. State Department, a delegation from China with representation from the State Oceanic Administration, the Weihai Marine Environmental Monitoring Center, and the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Oceans and Fisheries visited the NOAA Marine Debris Program in Oakland, California.

The meeting was the last stop on the delegation's tour that began in New York City the week of November 7.

The trip was an opportunity for Chinese officials, managers, scientists, and researchers to meet with their counterparts in New York City and San Francisco to learn about the waste management, sustainability, ocean conservation, and marine litter prevention and mitigation efforts. The delegation was interested to hear about NOAA's work on marine debris prevention, research, removal, and emergency response, and our coordination with other agencies and sectors.
