OR&R Hosts University of Maryland Eastern Shore Intern Symposium

MAY 2, 2022 – On April 21, Office of Response and Restoration (OR&R) team members gathered for the first ever Intern Symposium, presented by three undergraduate interns from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

The students, who have been working with various OR&R Divisions since September 2021, spoke about the projects they conducted and what they hope will come next in their academic and professional careers. Their presentations focused on impacts of oil and chemical spills on dolphins in the New York-New Jersey Harbor, the biology of sea turtle species found in the New York-New Jersey Harbor, and developing ‘evergreen’ outreach content for OR&R’s blog.

OR&R staff who served as the interns’ advisors expressed their sincere gratitude for the work the students have completed, and shared how they will use the projects’ outcomes to help inform OR&R operations for many months to come. While the students’ final day with OR&R was April 28, they will remain in touch with their NOAA contacts through an intern alumni listserv. We look forward to following their exciting careers!
