OR&R Chairs Arctic Council’s Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response (EPPR) Work Group Meeting in Reykjavik, Iceland

DECEMBER 11, 2015--OR&R’s Dr. Amy Merten chaired the Arctic Council’s Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response (EPPR) Work Group meeting in Reykjavik, Iceland, December 2-3, 2015.

The group’s priorities include planning for a 2016 scenario to exercise the operational guidelines for the Agreement on Cooperation on Marine Pollution Preparedness and Response in the Arctic (MOSPA), sharing lessons learned from search and rescue exercises, and discussed new projects on oil pollution prevention, radiological incidents, and mitigation of impacts from spring flooding in Arctic communities. Existing projects were evaluated on progress and included building capacity in small communities for preparing and responding to oil spills, developing a pan-arctic database on response assets, and developing a met-oceanographic analysis of response viability in Arctic waters, as well as, preparing an updated field guide on oil spill response in the Arctic environment.
