OR&R Convenes Experts in Shoreline Oil Spill Response Technologies
MAY 15, 2023 — From May 9-11, scientists from multiple agencies, industry, and academia met in Seattle, Washington, to help prioritize the next generation of research related to shoreline effects from spilled oil.
The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) and NOAA organized the workshop with the Coastal Response Research Center at University of New Hampshire and a diverse steering committee. More than 40 experts across the country participated and detailed research needs in the following six theme areas: response, detection, fate and effects, emerging fuels/products like dielectric fluids, policy, and changing the future. A final workshop report with a detailed literature synthesis will be posted online by October.
