OR&R Engages with Stakeholders at Clean Gulf Conference

NOV. 20, 2023 — Last week, over a dozen members of  OR&R’s science team attended the annual Clean Gulf conference in San Antonio, Texas. Altogether, OR&R staff participated as presenters and panelists in eight different sessions, covering an A-to-Z range of response topics: dispersants, estimation of oil slick thickness, hurricane pollution targets, in situ burns, natural resource damage assessment, chemistry of unconventional oils, data sharing, and wildlife response.

The Clean Gulf conference offers OR&R personnel an opportunity to learn from the experiences of their colleagues in the emergency response field, network with other state and federal agencies and private industry representatives, and provide or receive training to improve response skills. The conference covers a range of topics, including applied science, planning and preparedness, response case studies, and, this year, included some sessions on crisis leadership and responder health.

OR&R serves a leadership role in the conference, with one of the Gulf Coast Scientific Support Coordinators participating on the planning committee. The dates and location for the 2024 Clean Gulf conference have been announced as November 18-24 in Houston, Texas.
