Throughout the week, speakers from NOAA offices and external partners gave presentations on the challenges and opportunities facing data managers. The focus of this year’s workshop was on the value of NOAA data and public access

Representing OR&R, Robb Wright and Jay Coady both gave presentations on application development being by their group. Robb Wright presented on creating data packages from Deepwater Horizon data in DIVER for transfer to NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) for public long-term archiving and retrieval. The presentation focused on the wide variety of data types that OR&R manages in the DIVER application and the requirements to archive the data for 50 years of longevity. Jay Coady presented on the Environmental Response Management Application (ERMA) and how it is used to display and integrate a large variety of data in a single mapping environment. Specifically, the presentation showed the advancements in ERMA’s infrastructure, data interoperability, and data sharing have enabled it to support a wide range of functions for emergency response and Natural Resource Damage Assessments (NRDA) far into the future.
