OR&R at Lost Fishing Gear Discussion at the Exploratorium in San Francisco
SEPTEMBER 29, 2017--On September 18, the Marine Debris Program’s California Regional Coordinator, Sherry Lippiatt, participated in a lost fishing gear panel discussion hosted by the Exploratorium and the Bay Institute in San Francisco.

The other speakers were representatives from the California Ocean Protection Council, the SeaDoc Society, the Nature Conservancy, and a commercial fisherman. The discussion focused on the causes of lost gear, its impacts, and strategies to reduce gear loss and effectiveness after it is lost. Around 100 members of the public attended the event, which included a sustainable seafood tasting from local restaurants.
