OR&R Proudly Presents 2023 Accomplishments

JAN. 8, 2024 — In December of 2023, OR&R released its 2023 Accomplishments Report. The report highlights key accomplishments by OR&R during the fiscal year 2023, with a focus on the Office’s four mission focus areas: oil and chemical emergency response, natural resource restoration, marine debris, and disaster preparedness.

Among the year’s achievements, OR&R responded to 130 marine oil, chemical, and other environmental incidents; supported coastal communities during disasters; recovered $92.8 million from pollution settlements; and launched technological advances for key NOAA response and assessment tools. OR&R also awarded more than $630,000 to fund innovative all-hazards initiatives in coastal communities and approximately $67 million to fund transformational marine debris removal projects through funding provided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and leveraged funds from the Inflation Reduction Act. Partnering with the U.S. Coast Guard Great Lakes Center of Expertise, OR&R also advanced science capabilities for freshwater spill responses and assessments.

Through these accomplishments, OR&R demonstrates its dedication to protecting and restoring our ocean and coastal resources from the impacts of pollution and disasters through science-based solutions.
