OR&R’s Disaster Preparedness Program (DPP) Holds an Exercise Simulating an Earthquake and Tsunami in Seattle Region

JUNE 17, 2019 — On June 5-6, 2019, the NOAA Western Regional Collaboration Team (NOAA West) partnered with the Disaster Preparedness Program (DPP) to hold a tabletop exercise which simulated an earthquake and resulting tsunami impacting the Seattle region.

The goal of this exercise was to increase awareness of regional and cross-NOAA capabilities, roles, and mission responsibilities during an event. Over 30 participants from NOAA as well as a few from Washington Sea Grant and the Northwest Association of Networked Ocean Observing Systems (NANOOS) attended the two-day exercise in an effort to improve the corporate culture of trust, confidence, and transparency across NOAA in the region. The Planning Team is currently compiling notes and feedback into an After Action Report which will be available in the coming months.
