Conservation without Consternation: Marine Debris Mindset of the Sailing Community

FEBRUARY 19, 2016--On February 4, as part of biannual Sailing Leadership Forum, Marine Debris Program California Regional Coordinator, Sherry Lippiatt co-hosted a workshop on "Conservation without Consternation" in San Diego.

The forum, hosted by U.S. Sailing, brought together over 600 people from across the sport of sailing. The workshop was convened by Marine Debris Program partner organization, the Rozalia Project, as an opportunity to share ideas with sailing clubs and organizations interested in taking action to lower their environmental footprint. The Marine Debris Program came armed with resources to help clubs reduce their use of single-use disposable products and packaging and encouraged participants to report sightings of marine debris through the Marine Debris Tracker App. There was a lively discussion on approaches that different clubs have taken to reduce, reuse, and recycle, and participants left with actionable ideas to implement in their organizations.
