SEPT. 13, 2021 — On Sept. 7, the Office of Response and Restoration (OR&R) welcomed six new undergraduate interns from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES): Tnaisha Addison, Abisola Ajayi, Sophia Anokam, Sumayyah Cravens, Semaj Fielding, and Jasmine Thompson.

Working with their OR&R advisors across various divisions, the interns will support communications efforts regarding assessment and restoration of natural resources injured by oil spills and hazardous waste, catalogue the types of potential marine debris that could result from a coastal flooding event, develop storymaps and social media communications, and assist in the development of marine debris action plans, amongst other projects. They will also have the opportunity to attend special workshops focused on OR&R’s portfolio and career guidance.

This program will serve not only as real-world experience working in a federal agency, but will also provide the students an important connection to professionals in the field who are willing to serve as mentors and advocates for more diverse voices in all that we do. Please join us in welcoming the interns this semester!
