AUGUST 11, 2017--On August 10, NOAA and partners launched removal of the Weston Mill Dam, located on the Millstone River in Manville, New Jersey.

The removal is part of a settlement secured by the natural resource trustees - NOAA, the U.S. Department of the Interior, and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection - to resolve injuries related to releases of chemicals to the Raritan River from the American Cyanamid Superfund Site in Bridgewater Township, New Jersey. This dam removal will help restore a route for migrating American shad and other fish that has been blocked for nearly three centuries and will improve water quality and increase safety for recreational users of the river. The removal is part of a larger project being undertaken by multiple partners to restore migratory fish populations in the Raritan River Basin.
