Puget Sound Shell Refinery Oil Spill Exercise

SEPTEMBER 30, 2016--OR&R’s Assessment and Restoration Division worked with Scientific Support Coordinators, Ruth Yender and CDR Jesse Stark, on a worst-case scenario oil spill drill in Fidalgo Bay, Puget Sound, on September 28-29 using the Pacific Northwest Environmental Response Management Application (ERMA®).

Northwest ERMA was effectively used to search and display key environmental information such as Environmental Sensitivity Indexes and Washington Area Geographic Response Plans and resources at risk in context with the NOAA trajectory forecasts. The team also worked with the Shell Oil Geomatics team to implement and demonstrate the ability for Northwest ERMA to display datasets generated during the exercise, and for Northwest ERMA to serve data layers to partners.

For more information about incident planning and preparedness for response and Natural Resource Damage Assessment using the Northwest Environmental Response Management Application, please contact Ben.Shorr@noaa.gov or Nick.Eckhardt@noaa.gov.
